On the affineness of Deligne-Lusztig varieties

Abstract

We prove that the Deligne-Lusztig variety associated to minimal length elements in any $\d$-conjugacy class of the Weyl group is affine, which was conjectured by Orlik and Rapoport in \cite{OR}.
